Ruth Edman
About Ruth

Ruth Edman began her studies in viola playing and singing at the Music School in Lund and started in 1984 as a student at Malmö Academy of Music with viola as her prime instrument and with Josef Kodousek (Prag) as her teacher. During this time she also received singing lessons by teachers at the same school.

After her graduation at Malmö Academy of Music Ruth worked for several years as a viola musician in a number of professional orchestras, among these Malmö Opera Orchestra and the symphony orchestras in Malmö, Helsingborg, Norrköping, Gävle and Umeå.

In parallel with her orchestra work Ruth got more and more assignments as a solo singer at church festivals and church concerts and this finally led to her full commitment as a singer.

Ruth Edman has a wide compass of her voice and is rapid in her coloratura. Her repertoire includes sacred music by, for example, Bach, Händel, Hayden and Mozart, but she also enjoys performing profane music of both earlier and modern composers. Ruth has participated as a chorus-singer in several productions at the Malmö Opera. Her previous experience as an orchestra musician has turned out to be of great help in her work as a singer. This applies both to the interpretation of the music and to the interplay with other performers.
